Takao Abe is the Mayor of Kawasaki, Japan. Since his inauguration as the Mayor, Mr Abe has been focusing on the cutting-edge environmental technologies accumulated in enterprises and used in Kawasaki, and transferring these technologies abroad in contributing to the global environment.
Valuing the importance of establishing a good relationship between economy and ecology in the Japanese economy, Mr Abe is currently directing the city’s growth strategy by expanding Kawasaki into a strong centre of research and development in fields such as nanotechnology, environment, and life sciences.
Mr Abe has worked for a number of Japanese central government agencies. He was the Consul of Japan in San Francisco, USA, and the Director of the Ministry of Environment’s Environment Management Administration Division, which designed the environmental assessment system in Japan.
