Cr Adrian Schrinner, the Lord Mayor of Brisbane and Brisbane City Council, the Secretariat of the APCS, were delighted to welcome a delegation of 20 high-level government officials from Nepal to Brisbane City Hall in April. The Lord Mayor personally greeted the delegation, which included mayors and deputy mayors, along with representatives from peak bodies and ministries from cities across Nepal.

The delegation also joined with almost 200 public and private sector leaders to celebrate the official launch of this year's Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors' Forum (2023APCS), at a City Hall reception in Brisbane.

The Nepalese delegation's visit focused on best-practice exchange on Council governance, as well as providing a chance for Brisbane City Council to highlight the opportunities for involvement in the 2023APCS.

Associate Professor Mark Lauchs of Queensland University of Technology, who arranged the visit, noted: "The delegates were fascinated by the structure and operation of the Council, the role of the Lord Mayor as a presidentially-elected official, the executive functions of the Council, and the accountability mechanisms built into the system."

Mayors, city leaders, business leaders, industry experts and young professionals from throughout the Asia Pacific and beyond will gather in Brisbane from 11-13 October for the 2023APCS, which will focus on the central theme of "Shaping Cities for our Future."
